Key Stage One

John of Gaunt offers 3 years of schooling in the main school: Reception, Year 1 & Year 2.

The children are welcomed into the Reception Classes for the school year in which they have their 5th birthday.

The children in Reception classes follow the Foundation Stage Curriculum, which is the same as the Nursery.

After the children have completed the Foundation Stage (Nursery & Reception) they move to Key Stage One.

At the end of Key Stage One the children are assessed.

The five core subjects of the National Curriculum (Key Stage 1) are English, Mathematics, Science, Computing and Religious Education. To provide a broad and balanced curriculum, the other six subjects of the National Curriculum are integrated into the school day often through a “Cross-Curricular” approach where a topic incorporates several subjects.
