The children at John of Gaunt are very proud to belong to their local community town of Aylsham.

Aylsham is a very active small market town with active organisations which engage the local community.

John of Gaunt Infant and Nursery School is part of the Aylsham Cluster of Schools.All of these schools work very closely together and share good practice and expertise.  The children from the cluster schools often take part in joint events.  The highlight of the year being the annual Family Learning Day held in June each year. The school parent associations (SPA) organise a growing event at Woodgate Nursery and an outdoor door event at Blickling Estate.

The Aylsham and Reepham Children’s Centre is keen to support families – aylshamandreepham.childrencentre.org

Aylsham Rotary Club have ‘adopted’ John of Gaunt School and each week several Rotarians give an hour of their time to listen to readers. The children really enjoy sharing their stories and talking about the books they have read. All of the Rotary Readers have DBS checks.

The children raise money for a variety of charities through collections of “kindness pennies” each Friday, as well as supporting a range of National Charities such as Children in Need, Comic Relief and The British Legion Poppy Appeal.

At Harvest Time the children bring in contributions to fill shoe boxes which are sent to Serbia. – www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk

Every year the children perform a special nativity play for friends from Aylsham Manor as well as parents and friends.  The retiring collection is sent to support The Children’s Hospice at Quidenham.

The children are also encouraged to see themselves as part of the wide world community.  Visiting speakers are regularly invited to assemblies, and these include representatives from all denominations and care organisations.

The school is proud to support international projects and has links with Mnarani School in Kenya and Support Cambodia.
