Community
The children at John of Gaunt are very proud to belong to their local
community of Aylsham and have joined in several local initiatives, for
example, helping to promote
Aylsham as a plastic bag free zone.
The children are also encouraged to see themselves as part of the wide
world community. Visiting speakers are regularly invited to
assemblies, and these include representatives from all denominations
and care organisations.
The children raise money for a variety of
charities through collections of "kindness pennies" each Friday, as
well as supporting a range of National Charities such as
Children in
Need, Comic Relief,
The British Legion Poppy
Appeal.

At Harvest Time the children bring in contributions to fill shoe boxes
which are sent to Serbia. |
|
Aylsham has
“Cittaslow” status – this celebrates the quality and pace
of life of the town and community. The school is involved with the
annual food festival and this year’s snail trail. |
Every year the children perform a special nativity play for friends
from Aylsham Manor as well as parents and friends. The retiring
collection is sent to support
The Children's Hospice at Quidenham.
Once a term families are invited to join in a special family learning
day.

John of Gaunt Infant and Nursery School is part of the
Aylsham Cluster
of Schools. All of these schools work very closely together and share
good practice and expertise. The children from the cluster schools
often join in events such as dance festivals and regularly meet to
discuss ecological issues within our eco parliament. |
|
Aylsham Rotary Club have "adopted" John of Gaunt School and
each week several Rotarians give an hour of their time to listen
to readers. The children really enjoy sharing their stories and
talking about the books they have read. All of the Rotary Readers
have CRB checks. |
